Thin-Film Advantage

Thin-Film Advantage graphic

Utilizing a patented application process combining electrodeposition, wet spray, and thermal curing, Z-PEX is comprised of a hybrid polyepoxide base with a fluoropolymer topcoat that bond together at the molecular level.

Measuring only 1.3 to 2.0 mils, Z-PEX is orders of magnitude thinner than powder coat (5 to 10 mils) and three-part epoxy systems (10 to 14 mils).

The effect is that Z-PEX can go where other coatings can’t, providing protection in the smallest of recesses, including threads, without requiring over-machining or masking and resulting in a more secure fit between sealing surfaces upon reassembly.

Smooth Moves

Minimizing friction is essential for optimizing energy efficiency in pumping systems. Z-PEX’s low coefficient of friction acts as a lubricant, facilitating smooth flow and reducing electricity consumption.

Anti-Corrosion Coating

Resilient to the Core

Z-PEX exhibits strong chemical and physical resistance, substantiated by its real-world performance across myriad applications. Z-PEX’s durability is underscored by unimpeded performance in 100-hour exposure tests, which include exposure to over seventy-five prevalent corrosive industrial chemicals.

FAQs

Find answers to your most common questions about our products and services.

What is Z-PEX?

Z-PEX is a factory-applied, proprietary coating system designed to replace the need for stainless steel and other exotic metals in corrosive environments. It consists of an electro-deposited epoxy primer (e-coat) cross-linked with a fluoropolymer topcoat, offering comprehensive corrosion protection without the need for over-machining or masking.

How does Z-PEX protect against corrosion?

Z-PEX begins with an electro-deposited epoxy primer applied over a surface pretreated with zirconium oxide, creating a chemical-resistant base coat that forms an electro-molecular bond with the substrate. This is followed by a fluoropolymer topcoat, resulting in a uniform layer that prevents chipping, peeling, and corrosion creep.

Which industries benefit from using Z-PEX?

Industries such as oil and gas, HVAC, water and wastewater management, and general industrial sectors benefit from Z-PEX, especially where components are exposed to chemically rich environments.

Can Z-PEX be customized for specific project needs?

Yes, Z-PEX can be applied to various components, including threads, balls, seats, and other low-tolerance areas within valves, pumps, and manifolds, without the need for over-machining or masking.

How does Z-PEX compare to traditional coatings?

Z-PEX offers superior adhesion, chemical resistance, and abrasion resistance compared to traditional coatings. It provides a thin, uniform layer that protects 100% of components, including hard-to-reach recesses and threads, against wear and corrosion.

Can Z-PEX be applied to existing components, and what is its expected lifespan?

Yes, Z-PEX can be applied to both new and existing components. It has been shown to increase the lifespan of manifold systems and valves that were previously failing prematurely due to constant immersion in corrosive environments.

How can I get started with Z-PEX for my project?

For more information or to explore whether Z-PEX is the ideal solution for your project, contact Milford’s knowledgeable team. They’ll provide tailored guidance and are happy to arrange a presentation with an ecoat.us technical representative, discuss your specific requirements in depth, and even organize a tour of the ecoat.us coating facility if desired.
